Meals on Wheels Diablo Region

Meals on Wheels Diablo Region depends on donations to serve the 10,000 people who call for help each year and the 6,500 served by one or more of their services – food delivery, visiting, emergency interventions, fall prevention, exercise, workshops. Meals on Wheels Diablo Region are the only meals on wheels that delivers meals and services in the entire County. Meals on Wheels Diablo Region is committed to keeping up with the rapidly growing needs of the expanding population. Donations help sustain their services now and into the future. Meals on Wheels Diablo Region is an independent, non-governmental nonprofit. Donations can be made online, through check, through a Donor Advised Fund, through car donations and stock, and by becoming a member of their Monthly Giving Circle.

Berkeley Food Pantry

Donations to the Berkeley Food Pantry can be made in the form of funds (for every dollar donated, they can purchase 6 dollars of food), vehicles, stocks/bonds, planned giving (being named in a will, living trust, or memorial gifts), and food. If you wish to donate food, you can be a one-time donor, hold a food drive, or be an on-going donor. Some of their most requested food items are: canned meats, peanut butter, breakfast cereal, canned soups, and healthy snack foods for kids. They also encourage community members to join the Berkeley Neighborhood Food Project which is a coalition of Berkeley households, congregations, and businesses that donate food to the pantry every other month.

AmpleHarvest.org welcomes money donations. Money donations will go towards nourishing hungry families, helping those recovering from COVID-19 or other chronic illnesses get healthier food, eliminating the waste of food, and keeping gardeners and food pantry staff safe. AmpleHarvest.org connects America’s 62 million gardeners with local food pantries, so if you are a gardener who would like to regularly donate, all you have to do is visit www.AmpleHarvest.org, find the nearest food pantry, and donate your produce.

Grażyna Fedorowicz

Grażyna Fedorowicz is a community member who gleans fruit and vegetables from people's yards in Castro Valley, Hayward, and San Leandro, and donates the produce to the Dig Deep Farms Food Hub in San Leandro. If you have a fruit tree or a vegetable garden that yields more produce than you can use, please consider donating. You can harvest the produce yourself, if you prefer, or Grażyna and her volunteers can do it. To ensure freshness, please contact Grażyna at the above email at least a week before the produce becomes ripe to schedule donation pickup or harvest.

SOS Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit organization that is focused on addressing the issue of senior isolation and hunger. They strive to promote nutritional health, decrease possibility of early institutionalization, and support the independence of seniors. Their main focus is in Central Alameda County and the City of Oakland. SOS Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit organization, so they rely on donors to help fight against hunger. San Leandro Community Food Pantry

The San Leandro Community Food Pantry is a completely volunteer-run organization. Donors can make monetary donations or food and bag donations. The pantry is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, EIN 82-1408900, and donations are tax-deductible; with every dollar going directly their programs. Bags are used to distribute food to donors, which is necessary during the COVID pandemic, and the pantry accepts both perishable and non-perishable food donations. Food and bag donations can be dropped off on Thursdays from 5-8pm, but other times can be arranged.

Dig Deep Farms & Food Hub

Deep Dig Farms & Food Hub strives to create a culture of food justice and nutrition awareness through community farms, food distribution, commercial kitchen/food truck rentals, and internships and volunteering for underrepresented community members. Dig Deep needs food donation partners to work with their Food Recovery Project that can donate at least 100 pounds of food a week. For more information, go to this link. They are also accepting volunteers for their community gardens across Alameda County, during Community Volunteer Days on Wednesdays from 9am-1pm. To get involved, fill out this form.

The Telegraph Community Ministry Center is a food pantry that commits to providing food for residents of Oakland and Alameda County. The Telegraph Community Ministry Center has many volunteer opportunities for a variety of jobs ranging from preparing the food to working in the community garden. Meals on Wheels San Francisco

Meals on Wheels San Francisco provides a network of services that allows thousands of seniors the ability to live independently and safely in their homes, offering two home-delivered meals daily to homebound seniors. Additionally, the nonprofit operates a Home-Delivered Groceries program in partnership with SF-Marin Food Bank. Other services offered to seniors include: nutrition counseling, social work and case management services, safety and wellness checks, minor home repair and urgent needs including supplying refrigerators and microwaves for those in need, and friendly social caller programs to reduce isolation. The nonprofit is funded by a 50/50 mix of grants, government contracts, and private and public donations. Donations are critically important to the organization as services continue to grow to meet the growing population of San Franciscans aging in place in the City and in need of support. CVSan holds annual fruit gleaning events during Zero Waste Week in February and donates the collected fruit to local food pantries. They also offer supplies and resources for CVSan community members to glean independently, such as pickers. Farms to Grow

Farms to Grow is a nonprofit organization that serves underserved sustainable farmers in the United States, with their focus being on African American farmers. Farms to Grow aims to achieve widespread sustainable agriculture practices through cultural and biological diversity and the agroecological balance of the community.

You can donate to Farms to Grow with money or other resources. They accept donations of supplies, knowledge, and time. Send an email to info@farmstogrow.com to get involved. Tax deductible donations to Farms to Grow provide resources and programs to help open up opportunities for socially disadvantaged farmers in sustainable practices, while nurturing the next generation of agricultural workers and providing a network for distributing products grown by their farmers.
