Meals on Wheels Diablo Region

Meals on Wheels Diablo Region delivers meals and provides safety checks to food insecure seniors in Contra Costa County. MOW Diablo Region also provides an array of wraparound services to keep vulnerable seniors at home safely and with dignity, such as Fall Prevention (adaptive equipment, exercise and education), Friendly Visitors/Callers (companionship for isolated seniors through weekly visits and phone calls), Care Management (confidential guidance to help seniors combat social and personal issues), Health and Wellness (classes and nutrition resources), and C.C. Cafés (for seniors offered in five locations serving healthy lunches on weekdays along with offering social activities.)

Berkeley Food Pantry

The Berkeley Food Pantry is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2-4 pm and is open to any Albany and Berkeley resident in need of emergency groceries. Their food includes shelf stable staples, frozen meat, and a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy, and bread, all USDA certified. Identification and proof of residence are needed. They also offer home delivery to households who sign-up for it on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 1:30-3pm.

Falling Fruit

Falling Fruit is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to mapping urban harvest. Davis Street

Davis Street provides comprehensive safety net services for families and seniors in-need in the Eden area. Programs include a Federally Qualified Health Center providing primary medical, dental, women’s health, pediatric services, and behavioral health services; subsidized childcare; four childcare centers; wellness programs for adults with developmental disabilities; housing and utility assistance, clothing program, and food pantry providing grocery bags of essential food items to an average of 1,800 low-income families monthly. Davis Street’s clothing program, nutrition classes, and childcare centers for non-essentials workers are temporarily closed due to COVID-19, all other essential programs remain open.

The CalFresh Program is for low-income people and issues monthly electronic benefits that can be used to buy most foods at many markets and food stores. It helps to improve the health and well-being of qualified households and individuals by providing them a means to meet their nutritional needs. Once you apply and are approved, you will receive an EBT card with money for groceries within 30 days.

SOS Meals on Wheels

SOS Meals on Wheels is a nonprofit organization that is focused on addressing the issue of senior isolation and hunger. They strive to promote nutritional health, decrease possibility of early institutionalization, and support the independence of seniors. Their main focus is in Central Alameda County and the City of Oakland. Meals are distributed by volunteer and staff drivers Monday through Fridays from 10am-1pm and 1pm-4pm. San Leandro Community Food Pantry

The San Leandro Community Food Pantry is open for distribution Thursdays from 5:30-7:30pm, with distributions during the 2020 holiday season on Wednesday 12/23 and Wednesday 12/30 from 6-8pm. There are no income or residency requirements for receivers, although ID or another form of documentation is required. For COVID-19 precautions, food is pre-packaged for pickup in bags.

Telegraph Community Ministry

The Telegraph Community Ministry Center is a food pantry that commits to providing food for residents of Oakland and Alameda County. They distribute their food every Wednesday from 10am-2pm and 6-7:30pm, and Friday 10am-2pm. New Life Christian Church

New Life Christian Church holds a food pantry every Thursday from 3pm-5pm. The pantry is open for pickup and the church accepts anyone in need, and no residency is required.

Meals on Wheels San Francisco

Meals on Wheels San Francisco provides a network of services that allows thousands of seniors the ability to live independently and safely in their homes, offering two home-delivered meals daily to homebound seniors. Additionally, the nonprofit operates a Home-Delivered Groceries program in partnership with SF-Marin Food Bank. Other services offered to seniors include: nutrition counseling, social work and case management services, safety and wellness checks, minor home repair and urgent needs including supplying refrigerators and microwaves for those in need, and friendly social caller programs to reduce isolation. You, a family member, or caregiver can apply for Home-Delivered Meals program by phone by contacting the San Francisco Department of Disability and Aging Services’ Information, Referral, and Intake Line at 415-355-6700. Generally, services are geared to those 60 and older and who have little to no ability to get food or groceries on their own.
